At Sea 8th April
We both slept very well and were awake early, as has been our pattern (probably due to the small time difference). Cold, grey and raining outside. Then what counts as a busy morning by our standards. Dinner in the restaurant (rather than the buffet) as a vain attempt to limit our over-eating. Then to the theatre to hear a talk about Keelung, where we will be in two days, followed by a talk about Vivian Leigh. We left this early as it wasn’t particularly interesting and the live translation into Japanese broke up the flow. So we went to the morning trivia quiz, where we made a very average score; this annoyed me but we never do particularly well and so I’m going off quizzes. Then back to the theatre to hear a talk from an ex-royal butler during which I sat behind a pillar and read.
Lunch, of course. And we ate so much we could only read and sleep in counterpoint to our relatively busy morning.
The evening was formal, and specifically ‘black and white’ themed. Dinner included lobster, which was very good indeed, and then we went to the theatre and listened to a Maori tenor before retiring.
